STITCH OF THE MONTH: RIPPLE STITCH

April's Stitch of the Month is the Ripple Stitch!

A classic pattern that creates a gentle wave effect through a series of increases and decreases. It’s one of those stitches that looks far more complex than it actually is, making it perfect for building confidence while creating something eye-catching.

To celebrate the season, I’ve put a little Easter twist on it! I’ve worked soft ripples of pink, green, yellow, and blue across a crisp white background, inspired by the delicate stripes you’d find on a decorated Easter egg. The flowing waves of the stitch give it that playful, hand-painted feel, a bit like colour wrapping around an egg!

It’s a lovely mix of texture and colour, and a perfect reminder that simple stitches can create something really special

Ripple Stitch

Pattern Notes

  • This pattern uses a ripple (chevron) stitch, created with increases and decreases to form the wave effect

  • This pattern uses US terminology

  • This pattern is for a panel with a border of 49sts x 76 sts

  • All stitches are worked in the back loop only (BLO) unless otherwise stated

  • The first and last stitch of every row are worked through both loops to maintain a neat, stable edge

  • Stitch count is crucial for maintaining the ripple shape so count your stitches at the end of each row

  • Pay attention to your increase and decrease placement. They should line up vertically to keep the ripple consistent.

  • The “peaks” are formed by working increases (2dc) into the same stitch, and the “valleys” are created using decreases (dc2tog)

  • Always mark your first stitch
